Pressed glass, a technique developed in the early 19th century, allowed for the mass production of decorative glassware with intricate patterns. This method involved pouring molten glass into a mold and pressing it with a plunger, creating detailed designs that were previously only achievable through costly hand-engraving. American glass manufacturers, in particular, excelled in producing a wide array of pressed glass items, from tableware to decorative objects, often mimicking more expensive materials like cut crystal.

Paden City Glass Manufacturing Company, established in Paden City, West Virginia, in 1900, was a prominent producer of pressed and blown glassware. They were known for their elegant designs, often featuring floral motifs, geometric patterns, and hobnail textures, catering to the popular tastes of the Art Deco and mid-century modern eras. Their vanity sets, like the one depicted, were popular decorative items for dressing tables, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
